Business Cards

With the Exhibiton at Stew Gallery approaching, I have been looking into getting some business cards printed. During my placement with Textile Designer Lucie Summers last year, she spoke to me about branding and reaching a wider audience with my work. We discussed different websites for business cards she highly recommend Moo Print.

This week we hand a PDP session with Les in which we discussed displaying our work at Stew and Business cards, following on from this I decided that it was the right time to get my business cards designed and printed.

Over the past 2 years I have visited both New Designers and the Degree show at multiply Universities, through these visits I have collected Students Business cards.  To help me design my cards I looked at this collection I had gathered looking at what I felt had worked well layout wise and identifying the information I needed to put on the card e.g. contact information.

I have to say I found the process of designing my cards a lot of fun. Here are some images of my final designs I chose 6 of my designs to grace the cards 2 from each collection I am working on.

Sketchbook Work

Over the past couple of weeks I have continued to develop my ideas within my sketchbook, I have been trying to develop scale and motifs together working towards finished ideas for samples for the upcoming stew exhibition.

I have continued to use my favourite form of drawing which is collage, I love the designs I am able to create with this technique to allows me to be hands on and develop ideas as they form in my head. I have experimented with paper collage using stickers, gouache and felt tips to develop motifs and patterns.

Screen Designs

Over the last week I have been developing my sketchbook ideas into digital designs for both fabric and screen. I tend to create the Digital designs first then look at the design and see how I can develop it with another motif in the print room.

Below are the images of the screen designs I have created in black with the digital design I am paring it with in the print room below each one:

I am going to use the screen designs to develop my digital designs using a mixture of foiling, flocking and devore.

For these geometric designs I  haven't planned for which digital designs they will be matched with I am going to experiment with my floral motifs first seeing what works best, and go from there as these first samples are simply to experiment with ideas.

Duro Olowu

I have been using Pinterest to see how other designers have combined the themes of florals and geometrics together. While doing this I cam across designer Duro Olowu, in their Fall 2013 collection they explored combining these 2 themes. This was the first time I had seen the designers work, I really enjoy the bright tones of colour they have used along with a clash of prints creates a great juxtaposition.

Issey Miyake

While on Pinterest I came across designer, Issey Miyake. I really like the designers combinations of prints and experimentation with scale. It makes the pieces have a unique intricacy.

Digital Designs

My Plan for last week was to complete my first set of digitally experiments. In my learning agreement I stated that I would do at least 9 experiments, focusing on developing ideas from Ba7 using foiling, flocking and devore to add texture and depth to my 2D samples.

Within my first initial digitally designs which I am developing in the print room this week, I have worked hard to create a collection of designs which are linked by theme and colour but all are unique and different from one another. This is something which was pointed out to me in a previous tutorial that I tend to create samples from the same drawings making my samples repetitive and not a sellable collection of designs.

I have created 5 floral designs which have been created from my drawings and developments from my sketchbook. Within these designs I have developed my colour palette from Ba7 with the introduction of red. This collection of floral designs will be developed with the bold colour palette, through devore, foiling and flocking within the print room this week.

I have to admit that the process of creating these designs took me a lot longer than usually, but I think this is because I considered the colour and motif in a lot more detail in the aim to work towards a sellable collection of designs. I am really pleased with how these designs have turned out and i am excited to develop these further in the print room.

I worked in the same way when creating my 5 Geometric designs which where created from my drawings and sketchbook developments. I have worked with a monochrome colour palette within these designs. This is a current colour trend within fashion and was featured hugely in 60s mod designs. I have to say I liked the idea of black and white designs, but at the same time I  wasn't looking forward to the lack of colour as it is an aspect of my design I enjoy. Despite my reservations I am pleased with the finished designs.

I have begun to create my Mix designs But have only completed 3 designs, I feel these are less complete designs this is due to the fact I have only just began to work on developing my themes within my sketchbook so my ideas are less constructed at this stage.

In these designs I have mixed themes and colours, as initial ideas I feel that they look good. I want to develop my ideas within my sketchbook before I make any more designs, this will allow me to experiment with different ideas.

Premiere Vision Final Designs

Over this week I have been finishing of my digital designs for premiere vision. I have worked hard on these designs using the idea of combining Geometrics with floral motifs which is what I explored in Ba7. Within my designs I have worked hard to create three unique designs which are different but work as a collection. I have used bold colours with a contrast of a  black background, developing the ideas of scale and shadowing of pattern to create a 3d effect to these 2d designs.
Below are the three Finished Designs I have chosen:
